On August 20, 1989, Lyle and Erik Menendez murdered both of their parents in Southern California. Their father Jose was shot point-blank in the back of the head with a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun. Their mother Kitty was asleep on the sofa and was awoken by the gunshots, she woke up and tried to run away from her sons but was shot in the leg, causing it to break. She slipped over in her own blood and was shot several times in the arm, chest, and face leaving her unrecognizable.
Invetigators were suspcious of the two boys from the very start, but suspicions grew when they began spending their parents fortune. They brought expensive watches, holidays, cars and even restaurants. Erik eventrually confessed to his psychologist and both were sentenced to life-without-parole.
